THE APPROACH

Bringing together carnival barker charm and electronics know how, Nolan Bushnell co-founded video games giant Atari. In doing so he revolutionised the way people play games forever and inadvertently became the father of Silicon Valley, establishing a new way of working.

We spoke with Nolan Bushnell to hear first hand the story of his journey from computer science student to founder of a multi million dollar games industry. We unearthed the tales from those involved in the journey, posing the questions for key players that would bring the story to life.

Bringing together a fast paced and insightful voice-over with multiple talking heads, we created a script and guided the narrative from paper edit to completion.

Juxtapoz Magazine documentary premiered as S02 E04 of the award winning The Ripple Effect Series to a global audience on Red Bull TV.

THE APPROACH

Blending the essences of punk rock, psychedelics, hot rod culture and pulp comics, fine artist Robert Williams founded the “Low Brow” art movement, kick starting a creative revolution. Shunned by traditional art media, he created Juxtapoz – a magazine to champion the misfits that would go on to be the world’s most influential contemporary art publication.

We spoke with counter culturalist and leading contemporary artist Robert Williams to hear first hand his journey from art world reject to magazine founder. In addition, we did a deep dive into the lives of key players involved in the journey. We posed questions for the likes of no wave artist Lydia Lunch, cultural commentator Craig Stecyk and hot rod legend Pete Chapouris that would bring the story to life.

Chris Nelson and Demi Taylor were commissioned to write a film and tribute to the life of icon, entrepreneur, surfer, trailblazer Jack O’Neill.

THE RESULT

‘I Knew Jack O’Neill’ was premiered during the memorial paddle out in Santa Cruz and a number of events across the globe.

The film was also showcased world-wide via surf and adventure media including: Surfer Magazine, Outside Magazine, Stab, Tracks, Carve, What Youth, Grind TV, Men’s Journal, Beach Grit, Surf Girl as well as a number of film festivals.

THE APPROACH

Jack O’Neill –  trail blazer, inventor of the wetsuit, is a cultural figure who manages to transcend boundaries, beyond the notion of brand to the heady realm of surfing pioneer. When Jack O’Neill passed away aged 94, surfing lost one of its most iconic figures.

We had one week to produce a script that honoured a man who was both a surfing icon to the world and a friend and father to those who knew him best. In telling the story of Jack O’Neill, we knew it was important to share both the big steps and innovations as well as those more intimate moments of his life. We went deep into the brand and talked story with some of those who knew Jack well in order to write an emotive piece that captured Jack’s spirit, ethos, and philosophy, sharing not only leaps of innovation and imagination, but those elements of his life that helped shape the man.

We created a script and guided the voice-over artist on tone, pace and pauses ensuring the film carried the right energy, reverence and momentum.

THE APPROACH

Dr. Robert Moog was a musical maverick and inventor of the world’s first modular synthesizer. Working with some of the most influential names in music, he created a seismic shift in the sonic landscape with an instrument that crossed genres, employed by the likes of The Beatles, Emmerson Lake & Palmer and Gary Numan to Nine Inch Nails, Stevie Wonder, Portishead, Georgio Moroder and beyond.

We spoke with Moog Brand Director Emmy Parker to uncover the story of how inventor and technologist Bob Moog took a nascent idea and redefined the musical landscape. We also brought insight from key players involved in the journey and posed questions for the likes of Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh, Gary Numan, Adrian Utley (Portishead), Will Gregory (Goldfrapp) and Money Mark (Beastie Boys), helping the story breathe.

Weaving together a fast paced and authoritative voice-over with multiple talking heads, we created a script and guided the narrative from paper edit to completion.

In 1993, Louis Rosetto and Jane Metcalfe launched WIRED, a magazine that would become the mouthpiece for the digital revolution, fusing art, design and technology, spearheading the charge into a brave new World Wide Web.

We spoke with Wired founders Louis and Jane to learn how acid house, Timothy Leary and Amsterdam sparked the idea for Wired – the magazine that turned nerds into idols and technology into the new rock ‘n’ roll. We also teased out the tales from key players involved in the journey, posing the questions that would bring the story to life.

Weaving together a driving, energetic voice-over with multiple talking heads, we crafted a script and guided the narrative from paper edit to completion.
