THE IDEA
As a response to the unprecedented and uncertain times we’re living in with lockdowns and self isolation we wanted to quickly create an online event and celebration of surf culture to unite the surf community, to support surfers and creatives and to keep the stoke fires going.
Founded by Chris Nelson & Demi Taylor
THE RESULT
Launched Friday 27th March 2020, Lockdown Surf x Film Festival is a free, rolling, online festival & celebration of surf culture. This remote festival brings together a handpicked line up of the very best films, available free, online for 24hrs in an event screening, accompanied by talks and Q+A’s with the filmmakers.
Keeping the creativity rolling The Found Footage Files short film competition is an outlet for filmmakers, and celebrates breathing new life into old, archive footage while the Surf Cinema Re-Seen is a creative brief for artists.
THE APPROACH
We wanted to to create a space to help the surf community through what might be a long period of life on hold, and produce an international online festival that celebrating the very best of contemporary surf culture.
Lockdown Surf Film Festival is a community event for surfers and surf creatives.
A remote surf culture happening Lockdown Surf Film Festival is a rolling, evolving festival. We’re delighted to be working with the most exciting and relevant filmmakers and creatives from across the globe to host a series of free film screenings.
Alongside the international programme, we have established The Found Footage Files. The short film competition is about showcasing the creativity that exists in surfing. Many of our filmmaking community currently have projects on hold due to lockdown restrictions. Filmmaker are invites to enter a short film 1-5 minutes in length using old, found footage from their files, repurposed into something shiny and new that we can share with the global waveriding community.
WE DO
We are producing the Lockdown Surf Film Festival with help and support of our international network of surf creatives.
