‘The city of Biarritz bathed in the heat of summer, giving its white washed grandeur a Mediterranean feel. A small wave presented itself to a busy lineup. Skateboarding through the streets, we attracted the attention of passers-by, not used to seeing such recklessness amongst traffic. People walked the pavements in swimming shorts clutching longboards. Tourists wondered the winding streets, stopping at cafes, seeking shelter under the shade of umbrellas but finding only €5 espressos. Pushing along the tree lined avenues, we took advantage of a gradient that somehow continually brought us back to the sea. After several hills, countless ollies, powerslides and a handrail we treated ourselves to an overpriced bottle of water and called it a day. Tired and hot, it was time to retire to beaches further north.’
