Saturday September 28th 2013 saw the first annual 5 to 1 Fin Fair, presented by Reef, hit the UK. Hosted at Porthtowan Beach, Cornwall, this gathering of finned fanatics supported by FCS was part competition, part social gathering. The focus for the comp was on style, with judges looking for smooth expressive surfing, linking power with flow and stoke whilst balls out going for broke.
With an emphasis on good vibes, good rides and good times, the annual contest consists of five categories: single fin; 2 fin / twinnie / fish; Thruster or any 3 fin set-up; 4 fin set up / quad; and finally 5 fin / Bonzer.

Each category progresses through a knockout format, back-to-back 20 minutes heats, followed by a final to crown a winner in each class.
A grand final will be held between the winners of each of the category, with the victor crowned the KING OF THE FINS.
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE THREE ‘S’s – STOKED, SMOOTH and STYLISH
The surfer who exudes the most stylish surfing will advance and ultimately win the 5 to 1 challenge. Judges will be looking for smooth expressive surfing, linking power with flow and stoke whilst balls out going for broke. It’s not the difficulty of manouevre that counts, it’s the style with which it’s executed.
It’s all about panache and the way you cut a dash
